Immunology

Most of us forget about all of the hard work our immune systems do…until we get sick. When we’re feeling under the weather, that’s when we begin to remember how great our immune system is. To ensure you’re not taking your immune system for granted anymore, here is some basic information that will help you understand what your immune system does and how you can support all of its work.

Parts of the Immune System

Within your body are a number of different parts that help to support your immune system. You will find that these parts, when in working order, can keep you from becoming ill or they can prevent serious illnesses from taking hold – even without medications. So long as you treat these parts of your body right, then you should be able to avoid many illnesses.

  • Adenoids
  • Bone marrow
  • Lymph nodes
  • Lymph vessels
  • Skin
  • Spleen
  • Thymus
  • Tonsils

In fact, most of the time, your immune system fights off diseases without your knowledge. You might have become infected with some sort of germ, but your immune system knocks it out before it can become anything serious.

Types of Immunology

If you’re interested in studying immunology, there are a few different types that can be reviewed.

  • Classical
  • Clinical
  • Developmental
  • Diagnostic
  • Evolutionary
  • Immunotherapy
  • Reproductive

Within each of these types are different standards by which the immune system is interpreted and supported. For example, in clinical immunology, you might learn more about diseases that are caused when the immune system doesn’t work properly – i.e. HIV and AIDS.

Supporting Your Immune System

To make sure that your immune system is working to its highest standard, you need to follow this advice:

  • Eat well – When you eat right, your body is able to run better and stronger. Your immune system will be able to work more efficiently when given the right fuel.
  • Sleep enough – Your body needs a chance to repair itself at night, so sleeping enough will help it to do so, strengthening the immune system.
  • Lower your stress – When you stress your mind, you stress your body, increasing your chances of getting sick.
  • Wash your hands – The fewer germs on your body, the less likely you are to get sick. Washing your hands frequently will help you support your immune system.

The bacteria in your intestines also support your immune system. Taking probiotics regularly can help you stay healthy, even when you’re in the middle of a lot of sick people.

Your immune system is working hard everyday, so it makes sense to help it out. No more taking your health for granted, okay?
